BMI View: There will be a growing demand and uptake for addiction therapeutics as the US takes steps to combat the opioid epidemic , with l onger- acting therapies tackling poor treatment adherence. N ew and existing opioid drug products for pain face additional scrutiny, with the FDA looking more hesitant in issuing new approvals, and further lawsuits such as the latest one by NYC will be filed, coupled with efforts to reduce opioid prescriptions.

With the US in the midst of an opioid epidemic and the crisis having been declared a national public health emergency, it has been BMI's view that there will be a growing demand for addiction therapeutics. Now the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has announced a deregulatory measure that will make it easier for residents of underserved areas to receive treatment for opioid addiction.
