BMI View: The Central Europe and Baltics region poses both challenges and opportunities to multinational pharmaceutical manufacturers. T rends of t he sub-region are align ing closer to those of Western Europe, highlighted by regulatory improvements and the expansion of reimbursement. While such developments bode well for drugmaker revenues, the sub-region will , however, also implement increasingly forceful cost-containment measures to enable greater medicine affordability.
The Central and Eastern European (CEE) pharmaceutical market is highly diverse and as such, the challenges and opportunities posed to multinational pharmaceutical firms also differ greatly depending on geography. We note that the region can be split into distinct sub-regions where similar trends are playing out. Here we highlight a number of trends that define the Central Europe and Baltics sub-region, consisting of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia.
