The value of South Korea's over-the-counter (OTC) medicine market is expected to increase from KRW2,513bn (US$1.97bn) in 2009 to KRW2,544bn (US$2.42bn) in 2010. Due to the strengthening won, this equates to growth of 22.8% in US dollar terms and 1.2% in local currency terms. BMI notes that the five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for South Korea's OTC sector (+1.58%) is below that of both generic drugs (+9.91%) and patented pharmaceuticals (+4.97%).
