The Association of Pharmaceutical Importers (APIN) in Nigeria has cautioned that banning a selection of foreign drugs from entering the country will have a detrimental effect on both the local manufacturing sector, as well as reducing access to healthcare. BMI agrees that such measures, including prohibitive import tariffs, will not result in an increase in local medicine production and that ultimately the government should be focusing its efforts in raising output through better regulatory and operating environments.
