Prescription Drug Prices Remain Stable In H109

Data from Spain's industry association Farmaindustria reveals an increase in prescription drug expenditure during the first six months of 2009, from US$17.12bn in January to US$17.44bn in June. The data also show that the average price of prescription medicines has remained fairly static, starting at an average of US$19.22 per prescription in January, increasing to US$19.24 in February, March and April before falling back to US$19.22 in May and June. Meanwhile, the number of prescription drugs consumed increased from 891mn in January 2009 to 907mn in June 2009.
