The Russian Industry and Trade Ministry's new draft strategy for the development of the national pharmaceutical industry to 2020 shows a clear focus on developing the local industry and increasing patients' access to innovative drugs. By the end of the next decade the Ministry wants the market share of locally produced pharmaceuticals to reach 50%, while 80% of all drugs sold should be patented pharmaceuticals. The draft was put together following discussions with the business community, industry associations, research organisations and the Ministry of Health and Social Development, and will now be put up for further consultation with industry
