Adherence to National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines looks likely to increase substantially over the next few years, after Care Quality Commission (CQC) chair Baroness Young pledged to penalise National Health Service (NHS) organisations that ignore recommendations. Financial penalties such as lower pay for trusts, in addition to lower annual assessment ratings could be used to punish serial
