Zimbabwe has closed all but two border crossings to pharmaceutical and medical device imports. The official explanation for the move, which came into effect in July, is to stem the flow of counterfeit medicines. According to the Director General of Zimbabwe's Medicines Control Authority (MCA), Mafios Dhauramanzi, northern border posts in particular had become the focus of counterfeit drug traffickers. The MCA is chronically underfunded, having last received financial support from the government in 1997 and is thus looking to target its resources
