In a move aimed at lowering pharmaceutical prices in Mexico, President Felipe Calderón has pledged to end the requirement for pharmaceutical companies that sell products in Mexico to operate a local manufacturing plant. The announcement came at the opening ceremony of the AIDS 2008 HIV/AIDS conference in Mexico City and has been welcomed by HIV/AIDS lobby groups, which believe the rule contributes to the limited access to generic antiretroviral (ARV)
