In an effort to penetrate emerging markets, UK specialty drugmaker Sinclair Pharma has contracted Mumbai-based Wockhardt to distribute four of its products in India. The deal runs for 10 years and has the potential to be very lucrative for both companies, especially if manufacturing is transferred to India, where costs are significantly lower. However, BMI is concerned at the opaque regulatory status of the medicines, which could undermine commercialisation, as was recently seen in the US.
