The South African Competition Commission believes that four pharmaceutical firms colluded and inflated their prices for government hospital tenders. Three will face the Competition Tribunal, and if found guilty, fines could reach tens of millions of dollars. Fresenius Kabi South Africa will escape punitive measures after it agreed to co-operate with the commission. BMI believes that this incidence of price fixing could be a significant contributing factor to the country's booming healthcare costs.
