Iran's government is to commit around one sixth of its budget to healthcare-related functions for the financial year April 2008 - March 2009 according to the Ministry of Health. Approximately IRR70tn (US$7.5bn) will fund the Ministry of Health, government insurance schemes, public medical centres and medical universities. BMI expects about half of this to fall into our own definition of 'healthcare expenditure', which includes spending on pharmaceuticals and healthcare
