Swiss drug maker Novartis has agreed a deal with the UK's medicine advisory body the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) to create a clinical trial that measures the cost-effectiveness of a drug as well as its safety and efficacy. BMI believes that in the future such practices will be common as European regulators tighten the purse strings and it becomes harder to secure reimbursement for innovative treatments.
