Overspending in Romania's health system resulted in a short fall of essential medicines at pharmacies across the country in August. Patients with chronic diseases - including HIV/AIDS and cancer - were forced to queen for hours and even whole days outside pharmacies to get the drugs they required. The government eventually released a supplemental financial fund to deal with the shortfall, although this has not solved the underlying problems plagueing the health
