BMI has upwardly revised its forecast for the Indonesian generics sector after the government launched a programme to increase the availability of cheap, locally-made versions of patented pharmaceuticals. Under the Apotek Rakyat (People's Pharmacy) scheme, restrictions on dispensing drugs have been loosened and a network of small pharmacy outlets will be encouraged. We now expect the generics sector to reach a valuation of US$1.31bn in 2011, a 3.96% increase on BMI's previous projection.
