Imported generics and contraband medicines are seen by Latin American pharmaceutical producers as primary threats as they deal with the steady advance of US Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) according to a recent forum held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Notably, while the usual theme of the threat of foreign research-based multinationals featured in reports following the forum, the recent agreement on trade deals in the US between the presidential administration and Congress could mean both a renewed push as well as frictions over efforts to ratify FTAs in Colombia and Panama.
