Bulgaria's National Assembly has adopted the Pharmaceuticals and Pharmacies Serving Human Medicine Act (PPSHMA), bringing legislation in line with European Union (EU) standards. Despite the added bureaucracy, BMI believes that drugmakers will welcome the change as they have not been able to register products in the country since the beginning of the year in anticipation of the new rules. Even though no new products have been introduced to the US$2bn pharmaceutical market for the last five months, we are maintaining our forecast because of Bulgaria's strong mid-term prospects.
