BMI has upwardly revised its forecast for the Czech Republic pharmaceutical market after the country introduced a new decree that will increase the provision of modern and therefore expensive medicines. While this development will benefit patients and multinational drugmakers, local pharmaceutical firms such as Zentiva will suffer because it produces relatively expensive generic medicines that will no longer be covered by insurance. We now expect the value of the Czech Republic pharmaceutical market to reach US$4.05bn by 2011, up marginally from BMI's previous forecast of US$3.96bn.
