Australian biotechnology firm Biota has increased its damages claim against UK-based multinational GlaxoSmithKline, alleging that its senior development partner for its influenza drug Relenza (zanamivir) failed to promote the medicine properly, especially in the light of the potential avain flu pandemic. BMI sympathises with the smaller company, but it remains to be seen if GSK did indeed breach its contract. Regardless, we expect both companies to increase promotion of Relenza as countries around the world look to stockpile alternative anti-flu medicines as the image of competing product Tamiflu (oseltamivir)
