German healthcare company Celesio is reported to be preparing a rival bid for Alliance Boots . The UK-based retailer is currently mulling over a GBP10.1bn (US$19.9bn) bid from deputy chairman Stefano Pessina, who is backed by private equity group Kohlberg Kravis Roberts . Although, an outright take-over of Alliance Boots is likely to be thwarted by competition regulators, Celesio might be able to structure the deal in a way that would allow it to pick up some useful assets.
