With Europe's population ageing rapidly, the incidence of cancer is set to soar, providing a strong opportunity for research-based drugmakers with a focus on oncology. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IACR) has urged governments in the region to take action to reduce this deadly burden, utilising measures such as tobacco control, widespread screening for breast and colorectal cancer as well as greater encouragement for diet and exercise programmes.
