Saudi Arabia's public healthcare spending should fall to 50% of total expenditure over the next three years as the new private medical scheme for expatriate workers comes into effect. The private sector's contribution to drug spending should also rise to 70%. Presently, the state accounts for between 35-40% of drug purchases, primarily through large tenders, although this will fall as insurance fosters growth in the private pharmacy
