French drug giant Sanofi-Aventis has frozen investment at its Hoesht facility in Germany after the country's healthcare committee, the GBA, refused to reimburse its blockbuster cardiovascular drug Plavix (clopidogrel) for certain patient groups. BMI believes that Sanofi's decision is representative of the risks that an overtly cost-conscious public health policy can have on a country's pharmaceutical industry.
