The Philippines has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to lower retail drug prices, although the measures have yet to come to fruition. Low-cost generic medicines have been the cornerstone of attempts to improve the affordability of medicines, with a series draft bills attempting to foster the sector by rewriting patent laws, imposing direct price controls and expanding parallel imports from overseas.
