The EU Committee for Medicinal Products (CHMP) has recommended that Swiss firm Novartis' Exforge (amlodipine + valsartan) and Lucentis (ranibizumab) receive approval for hypertension and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), respectively. However, the committee has turned down the company's Mycograb (anti-HSP90 antibody) submission for fungal infections because of manufacturing issues. Despite the negative Mycograb ruling, BMI expects Novartis to address the CHMP's concerns and believes that the agent will eventually receive approval due to its impressive performance in clinical trials.
