The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned Turkey over its health spending, which it claims has risen dramatically from 3.7% of GDP in 1999 to 5% in 2005. This is now allegedly higher than in many comparable countries both in per-capita and GDP terms. However, the organisation claims that healthcare access remains highly unequal in Turkey, split along socio-economic and geographical lines.
