South African pharmacy retail chain New Clicks has had a strong year with turnover hitting ZAR10bn (US$1.38bn) for the first times. However, BMI cautions the company faces a number of challenges in the New Year including higher interest rates, that could dampen consumer spending. Also, the government has finally released its new regulations on drug dispensing fees - which become effective on January 1 2007 - and as expected, have squeezed pharmacy margins.
