Nigerian drugmaker Emzor Pharmaceuticals - which has recently celebrated its 20th year - has launched a new malaria drug. Diasunate is an artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT). The WHO recommends that using ACTs for anti-malaria programmes as a monotherapy can cause resistance in the malaria parasite. Diasunate is the only locally produced ACT in Nigeria.
