To enter the expanding Central and Eastern Europe over-the-counter (OTC) medicines market, Belgian firm Omega Pharma has acquired Austrian consumer healthcare company Bittner Pharma. Additionally, Omega has bought a small Italian OTC player to exploit changes in that country's regulations allowing the sale of medicines outside pharmacies. These deals are further examples of the wave of consolidation sweeping the global OTC industry and BMI expects this trend to continue as global growth rates for the sector increase in the near future.
