Representatives of the pharmaceutical industry attending recent meetings of the country's expert committee on drug pricing (the Chuikyo) have fiercely opposed official plans to introduce once-yearly price cuts. Although the health ministry held consultations in July and August, industry sources claimed that officials intended to drive through annual price revisions regardless of opposition from the industry, which claims that prices are already falling sharply in real
