Sufferers of a rare genetic disorder in the UAE will take heart with the news that Swiss pharmaceutical firm Novartis is about to launch its long awaited drug Exjade (deferasirox) in the country. Exjade works by removing excess iron from thalassaemia patients. The blood disorder - which obstructs the body's production of haemoglobin - affects between 3-10% of the population in the country
