Exploiting the sub-continent's low-cost base, Netherlands-based DSM Anti-Infectives has opened a US$500mn plant in India to produce Purimox (amoxicillin trihydrate). DSM has annual sales of US$100mn in India and is hoping to capture a 10% share of the country's antibiotics market, which is currently valued at US$1.9bn and forecast to grow significantly in the mid-term.
