Vietnam has announced a new plan for the development of the healthcare system between 2006-2010. Under the scheme, investment in the health sector is set to increase while there will also be a substantial reorganisation of the current network of treatment centres. For example, by 2010 all rural districts are expected to have a 50-200 bed hospital. Meanwhile, general hospitals in urban areas will be turned into multi-use clinics or specialist institutions.
