The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has accused the government of allocating an insufficient budget for the health sector. The country is facing a number of health problems, including dozens of recent deaths caused by drinking contaminated water, and a dearth of health professionals. The government has allocated PKR10.35bn (US$171.9mn) for health in fiscal 2006-2007.
