Hospital Sales Detract From Market Growth

BMI View: It is clear that the financial burden of medicines in Ukraine continues to be shifted from public funds to out-of-pocket spending. While BMI highlights the increasingly difficult hospital segment, Ukraine's pharmacy retail market is projected to continue recording strong year-on-year (y-o-y) growth. While there have been recent signs that Ukraine will seek to introduce greater price controls on pharmaceuticals, BMI believes the government is unlikely to pursue aggressive price erosion mechanisms - as seen throughout Europe - and is more likely to concentrate on price controls for publicly-procured medicines, which represent a relatively small proportion of the total pharmaceutical market.
