Regulatory Problems Holding Back High Growth In Generic Drugs Sales
September 2009 | Industry Trend AnalysisThe Mexican generic drug market is characteristically difficult to assess - chiefly because the government has not properly defined what constitutes a generic drug and has yet to phase out the production and acceptability of 'similares', which are not bioequivalent. Coupled with tentative prescribing of generics by doctors, the market by value is actually relatively small. We expect generic drug spending to comprise only 6.5% of the total pharmaceutical expenditure in Mexico, at consumer prices, by 2013.
