Cost Containment Measures Depress The Pharmaceutical Market

Drugmakers have generally charged what the market will bear in both developed and emerging countries. High prices were accepted by patients and national health services because it was hard to equate monetary cost to clinical benefit. The advent of health economics, coupled with increasing budget deficits, means there will be more caps on medicine expenditure, especially on essential drugs, which will affect revenue-earning opportunities for drugmakers.
