Novartis Expands Its Focus On Biosimilars

BMI Core View: The biosimilar sector will become increasingly competitive. Pharmaceutical companies are entering the sector to offset declining revenues from small molecule drugs. A key challenge is the opaque and dynamic regulations, which vary from country to country. Due to the complexity of manufacturing biologics, the rapid development of scientific know-how is a fundamental requirement. We note that only firms with strong marketing capabilities will capture the vast potential of biosimilars.
