Pfizer Discards Wholesalers

BMI View: The direct-to-pharmacy (DTP) distribution model will only be adopted by a few large drugmakers in a selection of concentrated pharmaceutical markets. While it is tempting to discard the services of wholesalers and consequently control the majority of the supply chain, this approach is inherently inefficient and will result in lower margins. Use of DTP systems is driven by political rather than commercial goals.
