Drug Producers Asked To Reduce Prices

BMI View: The prospect of the Latvian government requesting drug producers reduce their prices is a further deterrent for pharmaceutical companies operating in the country. This issue, combined with an already weak outlook for the country's drug market expenditure, will negatively affect the profitability of drugmakers targeting Latvia. Furthermore, BMI believes drug price reductions are unnecessary as Latvia already has relatively low prices. The latest inflation data shows that − at the consumer level - pharmaceutical prices have stabilised during 2010.
