BMI View: Multinational drugmaker involvement in theranostics, or the development and marketing of therapeutics in combination with diagnostics, will become more common. It is increasingly clear that the 'one size fits all' approach to developing pharmaceuticals is an anachronism. Due to the uniqueness of genetic sequences, people respond to drugs differently. Foreknowledge of response rates through the use of diagnostics will improve therapeutic outcomes and reduce overall healthcare costs.
