Government Pressure To Cut Prices Of Generic Drugs

In order to contain rising healthcare costs in British Columbia, the price of generic drugs covered by PharmaCare are to be reduced to 35% of the price of their branded counterparts, resulting in estimated annual savings of CAD$380mn (US$368mn) for the province. By year three of the agreement, the government plans to have reinvested around CAD$35mn (US$33.4mn) from the resulting savings into new clinical pharmacy
