First Compulsory Licence Granted

Ecuador has granted its first compulsory licence for a patented pharmaceutical since the Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa signed decree 118 on 23 October 2009.[1] The licence was granted for antiretroviral drug ritonavir, to Eskegroup, the local distributor for Cipla, an Indian generic pharmaceutical producer.
