WHO Suspends Combination Vaccine
March 2010 | Industry Trend AnalysisIndia-based Shantha Biotechnics and parent company Sanofi-Aventis have been dealt a major blow by the World Health Organization (WHO). The multilateral agency has suspended the purchase and distribution of the companies' Shan5 combination vaccine, which is used to prevent diphtheria, hepatitis B, whooping cough, tetanus and Haemophilus influenzae type B. BMI believes it is highly likely that there is nothing seriously wrong with the vaccine, but the development is clearly unwanted publicity for the manufacturers.
