A recent meeting between the Nigerian regulatory agency NAFDAC and its Chinese counterpart CFDA concerning better control over the quality and safety of medicines destined for Nigeria has resulted in a short-term rejuvenation of confidence in Chinese products. We note that despite China's growing interest in exporting its medicines to Nigeria, there are several key risks that will continue to make Nigeria's business environment challenging. Moreover, these risks are unlikely to be re-evaluated in the short term owing to bureaucracy and law enforcement issues in Nigeria.
