Drug Regulation To Be Strengthened

The Egyptian government believes that counterfeit drugs in the country could be worth around US$181mn. It also estimates that 10% of medicines found in otherwise legal pharmacies are actually fake. While the true scale of counterfeiting in Egypt, as with any country, is difficult to assess, the figures present a downside risk to Egypt's prospects for attracting further foreign direct investment (FDI) in its pharmaceutical industry.
