Novartis Achieves Record Sales

Despite the economic downturn, Swiss drugmaker Novartis has posted a strong set of results for the financial year ending 2009, with record sales in the company's pharmaceutical division leading to an overall 7% increase in net sales to US$44.27bn, up from US$41.46bn the previous year. The top-performing regions were Europe (US$18.4bn) and the US (US$14.3bn) as well as the top six emerging markets: Brazil, China, India, Russia, South Korea and Turkey (US$4.0bn combined). The company's net income grew by 4% to US$8.45bn, up from the US$8.16bn achieved in 2007.
