The Egyptian pharmaceutical industry is growing steadily, with spending in this sector forecast to reach US$4.2bn by the end of 2014. With exports on the rise, we believe that the most significant means of further boosting the market is through the local production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). This would reduce import reliance and costs for manufacturers, increase output capacity, give economies of scale and in the long run, bring down drug prices for the consumer.
