Roche Begins Virus Bioprospecting In The Amazon
March 2010 | Industry Trend AnalysisRoche Diagnostics' Brazilian subsidiary will begin research to identify different viruses from the Amazon region for the purpose of future vaccine development in 2010, resports Valor Econômico. The initiative, in partnership with the Instituto Evandro Chagas (IEC) and Columbia University and supported by a BRL4mn (US$2.3mn) grant, aims to study more than 100 varieties of viruses, genetically sequencing several pathogenic to humans, including dengue, yellow fever and hantavirus.
