New Policy To Affect Pharmaceutical Trade

South Africa's largest drugmakers have responded positively to the new trade policy that will lower antiretroviral (ARV) medicine prices in the country. Local manufacturers will be able to lower prices to match those of importers, enabling them to be more competitive and in turn increasing the availability, value and choice of generic medicines on the market. South Africa has one of the highest HIV/AIDs prevalence rates in the world and therefore this policy will have immediate and far reaching impact on both pharmaceutical market spending and later, the productivity of the labour force.
